In this training, fago & dasjo will work with you together to get started with Rules 8.x development.

Disclaimer: Rules 8.x is still in its early phase. We won't be able to use much of the functionality that you know from Rules in Drupal 7, but this training is really focused on ground work for completing Milestone 1 of the #d8rules initiative.

We already have solid foundation with a fundamental architecture and automated tests in place. Some conditions and actions are already ported, but there is still much to do to get all the rich functionality from Rules ported to Drupal 8. We'd be happy to train you to become one of the contributors to Rules 8.x.

Workshop (3 hours)

Any Drupal firm can deliver a product. The way you communicate with a client can set you apart and create lasting client relationships. If you go beyond simple delivery of requirements into establishing a strong interpersonal connection with a client, you convert them into a lead generator, a promoter for your brand.

No matter how well you understand the English language, the details of the way you use the language has a big impact on how it is received. This segment includes training on:
- Cultural norms of communication, expressions, and idiomatic language
- Diplomatic wording
- Formal versus informal communication environments and how to adjust
- Using persuasive language
We will be focusing specifically on the day-to-day operations of your business needs around English and client interactions. In this workshop we will cover situations regarding:

Training

Drupal 8 is around the corner and there are a few websites running on it so, why don't start your next project using Drupal 8 a take advantage of their awesome features.

In this workshop I'll try to explain how to start a new Drupal 8 project from scratch, building it's menus, creating content types and categorizing it using taxonomies, constructing your views and block to display your content, building custom forms and finally theming the whole site using Twig. Also we will take a look at new features in Drupal 8 such as configuration management and REST API.

The workshop is intended for site-builders but, if you are Drupal developer, both front-end and back-end, designer, project manager or Unicorn hunter, no matter if you don't have previous experience with Drupal, you are welcome.
Futureproof styling in Drupal (8)

Create futureproof, maintainable stylesheets following the Drupal (8) CSS coding standards and today's best practices.

We've all been there: lookin' a thousands line spaghetti code of CSS, scrolling up and down, trying to find all the declarations, which override each other here and there, and almost cry when we find out that changing one thing affects a lot more page elements than we expected. (In the meantime we mumble some angry words about the previous developer of the file and sometimes we realize that we are talking about ourselves…)

Working with / on open source tools teaches us, that we do not work alone. So it is necessary to write code which is easy to understand and easy to modify. This way we help other developers or our-future-selves to work more efficiently and enjoyable.

Furthermore, well structured code is not just easier to maintain but can help reducing our file size (less override, less comment etc.).

PHP and JS developers have their coding standards for a long time in order to help them to reach these goals. But since 2013 Drupal has CSS coding standards too, including formatting guidelines, Drupal 8 CSS architecture and file organization rules. Since the guide is based on techniques like OOCSS, SMACSS and BEM, it is up to date and useful to know.

This session will show you how to implement the ideas of the CSS coding standards and mentioned techniques in your everyday frontend work. We will discuss CSS/Sass organization, layout patterns and design components.

Starting from the same mockup, these two hardcore Drupalists will compete to build it better in white-knuckle, split-screen action! Scaragucc' is only allowed to use the theme layer, ohthehugemanatee is only allowed to use the module layer. Who will build the best site in this epic competition?

Gasp as scaragucc' manages complex data elements entirely in the theme layer. Feel your heart race as ohthehugemanatee themes from Views. You've never seen Drupal like this before!

After the title bout, you will be grouped into project teams to have your own sparring matches, Coder vs Themer style! We'll compare different approaches to team organization and compartmentalization, and simulate real-world project experiences. See for yourself which methods work in our intense virtual battlefield simulation!

Most shops have theme specialists and development specialists, and a large part of Drupal exists in the grey area between them. You'll learn:
- Where each side excels, and where it falls down.
- The gaping holes that are difficult for both themers and coders to navigate.
- Best practices for site building so that grudge matches like these don't happen.
- Organizational and workflow elements that help your team work together, for the best results.
- How the organization of your team members can affect project budget and timeline.

All the language support in Drupal 8

Training

Drupal has always been English first and foremost with several core features and dozens of contributed modules to introduce foreign languages and multilingual features in the system. Drupal 8 includes all the most important features from Drupal 7 contributed modules for language support.

In this workshop we will build on Ruben's site building introduction and review how does the new version support foreign language sites and move into mixing various languages on one site including content translation, site settings language support and translating the software itself. This workshop is aimed at site builders. A bit of experience with Drupal is a plus.
Drupal Development Workflow Automation

When a company reaches that level when more than one person is working on several projects, then there is a need to automate the often repeated processes. These automated processes will help to bring new colleagues joining the development project up to speed. On the other hand, having automated tests without these processes is almost impossible task. I would like to introduce to the participants the basic knowledge and tools within the framework of this workshop, which enables walking down this road.

Bálint Kléri (ex-NodeOne/Wunderkraut, ex-Commerce Guys) and Dávid Segesvári (Cheppers) are delivering an afternoon workshop, that will cover the basics of Drupal Commerce. You can leave to an evening swim knowing everything to kickstart developing an online store.
